6maxing it with euro's

since i feb i have been playing a load of 6max. no where near as much hours or hands i should have played. Only one month i've played more then 50 hours i think. so bad. Plus i have ran like dog shite. I think i prefer 6max for the moment, although it is nice to clear bonuses quickly playing in the ring. 6max is more fun in a lot of ways.

I really want to put more hands in on the euro site I feel like there is a way forward there. Moving up past mid stakes is a reality. it would seem you can find lots of decent games past 600nl even seen some 2Knl games better then some 100nl haha. sure this must be true on the main USA sites as well but no where near as frequently. Pokerstars has a way of never letting me leave. It is nice to always have 20+ games going no matter what time you play. Also the mid afternoon time is peak time in america but dead time on the euro sites so i can switch it up.

If i reviewed my year long goals and ambitions i am sure i fail all poker related ones GG poker haha.

I am in chiang Mai now. Went to see a muay thai fight today was very good. we Also went to look at about 5 houses with estate agents. Found one that is really

nice although they were all very nicec. This one ticks most of our boxes. Will go look at more tomorrow. Didn't have the internet the last few days but we moved guest house and found a much better place with internet.

The photo at the bar you can see, Arnuard, Lex, Tom and Josh, we are in bangkok.

The one at the hotel with the blue lights was @ Dream hotel in Bangkok.

We then went to chaing mai (1.30 mins via plane) and stayed at a guest house that wasn't very good.

The house with the river and large open garden was the first house we visited.

The white house is the one we want there are 4 houses in one place with a gaurd at the front. A 6 bed 3 bed and 2 bed and a swimming pool out back. All are large rooms and he says we can add what ever furniture we want to have.

The fight was pretty decent and brutal 2 KO one was in the first round.

Leave on thursday 6am and arrive in Bangkok at 7am 8th. Not looking forward to the 13 hours on and off of planes but maybe I can just get wasted on the plane? Pretty scary but super excited about it as well. Very good Coincidence that one of the group (Lex) happens to be on the same plane as me from Abu Dhabi to BKK (we didn't plan this obv). I booked first night at Dream hotel and looks like Josh, Arnaud, Tom, chris and Lex will as well now :) Although we all get there at different times. I am a bit worried about spending a shit ton of money first few weeks, just because everything is cheaper then home. I'm not 100% sure how long we are staying in BKK for till we move on to Chiang Mai, I for one would like to stay out for a few days or so and see the 'sights'. I gotta get packing today, so many little things to finish off before i leave.

2009 was an all together dissapointing year at the tables as far as my results were concerned. I expected much more from myslef and I didn't acheive what I set out to do.

from last years micro thread of 2009 goals

- Will make playing 100NL a regular thing.
- Will actually put in some Volume instead of >20K hands of laziness every month.
- 200-400NL+ is going to be my home at the end of the year.
- will be playing much more short handed and HU.
- Continue to study, improve and keep a WR I'm happy with.
- Make SN next year.
- Find this post and laugh at how bad I used to be.

So I'm not really laughing about how bad I used to be and I'm not happy with WR but made the rest of the goals. I guess not a total fail then. I can't really call 200 my home as I have only put small volume in there. I haven't played nearly enough HU either.

Re-evaluating what I am doing wrong and why I am not where I want to be.

past mistakes from last year and the main ones:

+ Playing 'to many' tables at once. I'm all for increased hourly but you only increase it if you actually make money. I know by now how many tables I can play profitably/optimally. Also playing so many tables really slowed some growth.

+ Being extremely non efficient with time management. Spending lots of time doing pointless things like reading 2+2 threads for hours on end when I should be playing. Quiting when the games are good and I'm playing well. Playing to long when games are bad and I'm playing badly. waking up at 4pm and starting sessions at 12am. The list goes on and on on this one.

+ In efficient studying of the game. Watching 3 training videos one after another and not taking note are really paying as much attention as I could be. Watching vids just because I don't feel like playing but this relates to last point more.

+ Tilt was a huge problem from Jan - Sep in one way or another. It came and went, some months I would almost never tilt and others I couldn't play 5 mins with out wanting to punch my screen or throw my mouse against the wall.

+ Being a poor poker player, Like duh!. Not really thinking about things correctly or having a real grasp on what is going on. Also I level myself soooo much via over thinking things that are so clearly black and white! My heart was in the right place and as a result I think it will help me in the long run.

I must 'Learn from the past, Hope for the future, Live in the present'. Looking forward to 2010 I will need some foundations to lay so I can build upon these as I progress. Looking at the mistakes of 2009 I'm going to try to at least lessen the extent of them.

- Remove tables if I am unable to preform well enough. Play some sessions with less tables at 1 level higher then normal.
- Make schedules for my goals and plan out days. Make amendments to these if I have conflicts. Don't give this up if I happen to mess up one or two days in a row.
- Take notes when I watch training videos. Set up some group discussions or varying other ways to interact with players e.g. video reviews of each other. Keep to a stricter study Vs playing ratio and make playing the much bigger one.
- Make good quits when tilt is a factor.
- Play more when playing well and games are good or vise-versa.
- Continue to make time every week to get exercise.
- Make time each week socialise more.
- make my diet a slightly higher priority.
- make moving up a higher priority, plan this some what.
- MAKE A BETTER BLOG :)

That's it for now. I may or may not add more if I notice gaping holes. I'm using this as my base to expand on later so I still have some work to before I get into the grind next year.

Its been about 2 months since I have started telling people/have decided to go fulltime. Although I had spent lots of time playing before this. I have had some pretty big issues with my actual hands played (for better or for worse) and it is about time I uped the ante, put some elbow greese in and got stuck in. I am going to try to structure my day better as well as set achievable yet ambitious goals that I will have to try my hardest to achieve.

Today is 14th. I want to have played 120 000 hands by the end of the month. I am roughly getting about 900-1K hands per hour (have upped my no. of tables to 18-22). I have played only 34 000 hands so far on the month and 38 hours.

So 86K hands to go and about 90 hours more. This works out to 5.6 hours a day on average need to achieve my goal. Given that I'm sure I will have a few half days here and there I should try to average more then this for my typical day. I'm going to try to aim for 7 hours of played time per day. If I feel good or am running well I will play more then this but I think its a good baseline.

I need to keep a tight sleeping scheduel that means getting up at 8am. The games are great early doors (GMT) and my mind will be freshest.

any sessions after will have to be done before 11 pm so I don't stay up late and fall into bad habbits.

I hope I can stick this one out. If I stick to my plan and make my goal I will reward myself with a new watch (as long as I am not busto :))

side note: Wilt on Tilt does a vid review of my HU play at 100nl on Deuces Cracked. Although I made a few large-ish mistakes WOT does a good job explaining things I should be doing better and why.

Dunno if anyone reads this shit or not, don't really mind either as I feel it is benefital for me to keep a blog.

Haven't updated in a few months, not good.

Aug resluts at 100NL I have here. I managed to somehow have a 5PTbb/100 ish WR which is probably my best month at the limit.

then september, meh.... for some reason i don't learn from my mistakes and decided to play in another challenge to force myself to put in volume. This is silly, playing 20+ tables is -EV for me in general. So I quit due to downswinging playing 50nl and 100nl. I quit at the 30K mark ish. Then just played when i felt like it. It seems like that is just much better for me.

I have been getting some coaching sessions in, so far about 3. I am happy with them, they help keep me focused. Also is helping with some confidence issues.

I have been in contact with some poker players from the DC forums about moving to Thailand. More then likely we will move out in Jan 2010. I am going to try and check out Thailand before I am 100% commited, I'll go down for a week or so in Nov/Dec. Hopefully we will have found a place by then and I can see it. The destination we are looking at is Chiang Mia, smaller then BK but a more geniuine side of Thailand I have been told (less tourists ect). Most of the places we have been looking at out there look so amazing. Here is a link to one that we were thinking about but it has been snapped up. I am very excited about this. The size of the houses and the quality you can get for these prices is unbeatable (works out about $250 per month).

Anyways this month is going shit poker wise, I am hoping I can turn it around and make a decent profit.

Been chilling some this month. Got another week left to bang out some hands. wanna put in about another 20-30K. Shouldn't be to bad seeing as I've gone back to 18+ tables. Was supposed to put in 10K hands of HU this month, grrr maybe I'll play some more this week, so far only 1K hands of that. Next month I want to but in epic volume, which I may or may not do. Might make a loose schedule for a 4+ hours a day grind but I dont want to tie myself up in it or put pressure on myself soooo I'll see how things pan out.

Has been a while since I have posted but thought I'd give an update of how things in my poker world are going.

Last month was so so. This month started off very well running about 5-6PTBB/100 for first 20K hands. Then thought I'd play some 1/2 to see how the games are. Turns out that the games suck! and I suck at the games :D so after some ups and downs I think it is best to advoid the level unless any good tables are running. It would seem after the run bad/sucking at 200NL I get kicked in the teeth at my current level as well. Seems anyone that calls my 3bets is always going to out draw me and any time I am an 82% fav pre flop the flop will be the flop you need to win. Any time I bluff I am called down, any time I have near nutted hand they find a fold. I dunno if I am that transparant or what? I try to be fairly balanced but turns out they always find a fold when I have it and a call when I don't, really plays badly with your confidence. Anyways my plan is to not move up until I find my skill level vastly exceeds my stakes (obv not near that ATM) . I will also move up if I find any really good games and not let the level I play dictate. Basically I'm rarely going to play above100nl because the rewards are no where near as good for me, but I don't mind sitting in if I find a table with a couple of spew monkeys.

I need to find a way to not tilt so much, it is by far the greatest challenge. I have been relatively good at quitting yet still not quite fast enough. must have lost about 5-10 BI from tilt alone this month. I really want to push out a 4K month at some point (not including bonuses) and have yet to do so :( well that is my aim at the moment.

Oh also for the 2nd half of month so far, my red line has just gone right down. I think I have been running like ass in every spot possible. Its been really abnormal considering it has been really straight for about 70-90 K hands then just goes down for the last 20K. Might have to start tightening up in some spots.

So after last weeks run good PS has said thats enough. I am now on one of my biggest downswings and I don't need poker EV to tell me I'm running bad. -10 BI or so at 100nl full ring and -5 BI at 50nl 6max. I've reviewed my hands that include a couple of marginal stack offs but in general I feel I'm running into the top of ranges. when I do get the money in good or get most of the money in My villains are getting there on turns and rivers. Some positive things

So after the onslaught of last weeks 200nl session I hit it up back down at the hundo limit. I've been using a HUD this week so had to drop tables 12-14 and tried to think about every play no
matter how trivial. Played really short sessions usually only about 30mins each. I havent got many hands in at all but have been running decent and thats always nice. I might try to pad my roll some more and gain more confidence b4 I start playing more 1/2.

Then I get my AK AIPF in btn Vs BB battles VS guys that are habbitual 3betting TAGs I have some notes on. One has KK and it holds; the other has AA also holds. Well yeah that pretty much sucks. also got stacked twice at 100nl by making a river CR bluff in a bad spot and calling down light probably from tilt. damn it. lol. oh wells.

I have 0 goals set this month. Just been casually grinding but I have been very lazy the past week. Only played 15K hands so far this month and 8K of that was Fing around <50NL. I have to stop being so results oriented. Need to put in the extra hours grinding and stop quiting sessions when I'm up a couple of BI's.

Recently purchased a car MK3 golf GTI (most I've spent with poker funds), god damn it was a hastle. Firstly, I didnt actually manage to find the model I wanted (16v not 8v) and decided I didnt want to wait around for one to show up. I had looked at about 5 different cars over the past week or so, none meeting the expectations I wanted. I finally found a tidy 3dr 8v and put the deposit down. I couldn't buy Tax for the thing because the insurance complany won't send offical documents through email or fax. Called the DVLA, they have a database with all the infomation about cars including insurance. Well thats easy I'll just get them to tell the guys at the post office I'm insured and can buy the tax, bingo! 'NONONONONO you can't do that' the lady tells me they arn't allowed to give the information out. I actually had to travel to Crydon (London) to the main office and pick it up myslef the same day otherwise I would have been waiting 5 days (was a friday so weekend post ect). I'm not surprised half the cars on the road dont have tax ha. Well it turns out the insurance comes through the post box the next day! "£$%!$^"^%"£%
Anyways might post some pics. Not as impressive as my old car (nissan 200sx s13r) but I'm pretty happy with it and its still fairly rapid + MPG is sooooo much better.

Today was fun for once, no tilt even though some of the beats I took with sets for my stack annoyed me I stayed calm and moved on. Much of this was to do with me switching off my HUD and being able to 20+ table. Ahhh bliss! You have no idea what a relief it is. I might have to ditch the HUD all together; it's a CPU resource nightmare and lagggs the crap out of my PC, adding to some unnecessary tilt all at the same time. Hence only being able to play 17 tables max, and that’s kinda pushing it. I'm not over exposed to excessive information and I can go back to how I used to play hudless using my intuitiveness and anal note taking. Yeah sometimes its nice to see that this fish is a ‘70/4’ drooler but its amazing what you can pick up with out that info burning holes into your eyes.

This hand was cool, its 100% the most satisfying play that doesn’t come around to often. Betting for value OOP for 2 streets when you know your opponent is likely drawing then letting him bluff at it when the river is a total brick (for him).

Been playing a tiny bit of PLO as of late. Its great fun and a welcome break from the daily grind. I'm not so good yet but I like learning. Its nice to sit at a table playing a game you know little about and still being better then the average joe. From what I've seen Its a much looser playing field and there is more gamble in it.

Anyway, I'm basically just filling this blog with rando crap from poker at the moment. I'm going to try and write a little something every few days or so.

100K hand challenge

This is the link to the 2+2 thread that will tell you what it is about.

Well this month has taught me a lot. Playing at least 4.5 hours a day almost every day really does change your perspective on what a pro has to deal with. Things that I've learned:

- 4-5 hours of poker in one day is a reasonable task but sometimes you really don't wont to play.

- tilt managment, I've learned when I need to quit. I've also been able to spot tilt much sooner then before where as before I would be in denial about it and continue to play resulting in bad sessions.

-Sometimes you just need to quit a loser for the day, even if you are playing well.

-Sometimes you need to play longer sessions when you are winning. Seomthing that I struggle with now is winners tilt but I try not to look at my cashier when playing.

Including the back end of Feb I have been break even for 60K hand. By far some of the most variance I've felt. 2 10 BI down swings really makes you stress.

Anyway when ever I run bad or exerience variance it forces me to look into my game deeper. This months problems in a nut shell (other then run bad):

- I was playing far to loose (17/14)
- I got myslef into a lot of marginal situations often.
- I was over thinking some situations due to only 12 tabling.
- Some tilt goes a long way, I played sessions on tilt for waaaay longer then i should.
- I've never played this much in a short period of time.

I honestly think I play better when I play 15+ tables. It gives me less time to over think the situations (sometimes resulting in FPS). I naturally tighten up, 23 is never a great hand to iso raise a 90/2 fish! I can play way more hands per hour obv!
I thought this challenge would be much easier volume wise but 12 tables only gets about 600 (fasttables) hands per/hr. I've played 80 hours this month (think thats a new personal record) and played 50K hands. I'm way behind on the volume and my WR is so bad, yet some how I still feel positive about this month. I think thats because after some changes and less spew the past 20K hands I've run at 4ptbb/100. I hope I can keep that up and at least get to around 90K hand mark.

Month started off really well actually. Solid winning sessions and feeling pretty good. The last week and a half was just soooooo terrible. I litterally have never run so bad and its still continuing on. Every set runs into a higher set, when I flop the nuts I spilit the pot or get sucked out on. every turn and river card is the worst in the deck. I'm not going to/haven't let it effect me much. I try and make the right play and then live with the results and ask how I'm going to loose the next hand. I'm surpised I havent lost more money TBH. Fish run like God Vs me, seriously!

All the cool kids are doing it. Might as well jump on the band wagon and getting some blogging for realz. will up date with something slightly interesting when I get off my lazy ass....

My names Rich, AKA richbrown360 @ 2+2. Started grinding no limit micro pokers on and off from march 2008 @5nl. I now play 50/100NL as my regualr game @ poker stars.

Ok I'll start things off on a low point, then things can only get better, hopefully.

This is the first month that I've played most of my volume at 100nl. All was going well and I was feeling good with a 8bb/100 WR after 33K hands until.... Yesterday was my biggest ever loosing session in monnies. I've had 8-10 buyin down swings at lower limits, not very often tho and generally don't swing more then 5. I'm usually ok with it and just grind through. I expect this month and next to be no different. If the swing continues I'll consider taking a couple of days off if I think it is effecting my game. Also I'll move down in limits to try and gain confidence.
